The circular economy

Frosch products are designed in line with the principle of circular economy – from the formulation to the packaging.

From the very beginning, Frosch has relied on plant-based formulas. This means the brand has been using renewable raw materials since 1986.

At Frosch we follow a true circular economy principle, i.e. we design our products holistically so that they can be maintained within a closed recyclable material cycle.

The source matters for the climate

As of December, our new Frosch bottles — naturally made of 100% used plastic — can be found on retail shelves. What’s new is that the proportion of material from the Yellow Bag in our bottles has been increased significantly once again from 50% to 75%. It’s a true PET innovation which shows that climate-friendly recycling works.

For us, plastic is a material that still lands all too often in an incinerator or even worse, in the environment. Plastic, however, is a valuable resource that should not be allowed to go up in smoke. In Germany, thanks to the Yellow Bag, we have the best recyling source practically at our front door. Because high-quality mechanical recycling consumes little energy, it also avoids CO2 emissions. That’s good for me and good for the environment.

At Frosch we don’t just live in a circular economy—we also develop it continuously. Together we work for a sustainable future, a future that began long ago at Frosch.

Holistically sustainable packaging

For the benefit of the environment, our packaging is designed such that it can be recycled again with high quality results. This is a matter of course for us: We use recycled plastic for our bottle bodies.

Our refill pouches save on plastic because they require less material than a bottle of the same size. What’s more, the material makes the pouches 100% recyclable.

Use and refill

We develop easy-to-use and durable packaging that can be easily refilled. This means that when a product is empty, its packaging can be refilled from one of our refill packs – and this applies to almost every product category.

Plastic waste as a recyclable material

Our packaging is recyclable, allowing it to be disposed of in the yellow sack/bin and then recycled to a high standard of quality. Turning today’s bottles into tomorrow’s bottles. As a pioneer in this field, Frosch relies on recyclates that from household collections, e.g. the yellow sack in Germany. Between 50 % and 100 % – depending on the type of plastic. The remaining share comes from collecting returnable bottles. This keeps plastic within the cycle, to the benefit of nature.

Design for recycling

We design our packaging in accordance with the “Design for Recycling” principle. In other words, we do not use dark-coloured packaging or closures, because it is easier to recycle transparent or light-coloured plastics, thereby resulting in a higher standard of quality.

Ecological products for your home

The circular economy also plays a key role in the development of our formulae. The plant-based raw materials we use are eventually intended to become fertiliser again, thereby turning into new plants.

The ingredients responsible for cleaning performance are based increasingly on European plant oils, such as surfactants made from rapeseed or sunflowers; acids from wood residue; and alcohols from sugar beets.

Effortlessly clean throughout the house

With their green efficiency formula, our products are powerful and yet particularly gentle on humans, animals and the environment. Protecting the skin is a special focus of Frosch products, such as washing up liquids.

Biodegradability is a must

When designing our formulae, we pay special attention to using surfactants that are highly and rapidly biodegradable. This means we can ensure that our products are considerately returned to the environment.

For the preservation of biodiversity

We have always been committed to preserving biodiversity, whether in collaboration with NABU in the Rhine floodplains right on our doorstep, or with BOS, which is committed to preserving the peat bog forest in Mawas, Indonesia: Promoting traditional plant cultivation – especially with regard to native biodiversity and the avoidance of monoculture – is an issue very close to our hearts.

Knowing where it comes from

Frosch products contain alcohols, acids and surfactants that are increasingly of European origin. Surfactants, i.e. detergent substances, are based on rapeseed or olives, for example. These, of course, do not compete with food production. This allows us to ensure shorter transport distances compared to using raw materials sourced from tropical cultivation – and save climate-damaging CO2.

We live an outstanding energy-saving circular economy for climate protection and the maintenance of biodiversity.

Our Frosch Initiative

The Frosch initiative shows how wise, possible and necessary the circular economy is. For us, it goes without saying that yesterday’s newspaper becomes tomorrow’s newspaper. In the same way, old plastic bottles must be repeatedly turned into new ones. Only in this way can we solve the plastic problem!
